Tanah Lot is a temple area located at a sea shore. It is unique because the sacred temple is located above a small rock hill. It is one of the best Tourism Destination in Bali. The stairways to the sacred area are made by carving the rock of the hill. Under the sacred temple, there is a cave where Balinese Priests usually have a ceremony every morning. There is also another cave with sacred snakes in it. The snakes are coral snakes and have poison, but we can touch and play with the snake safely by the help of the priest. The only thing we have not to do is making the snake shocked by the flash of the photo. So if you want to take someone picture with the snake, don't forget to shot down the flash mode of your camera.
There are several temples at this area. There is also a big hall for praying.
The temple area is surrounding with shops and restaurants. You can buy some merchandise at the shops.
If you are lucky, you can go to the sacred temple and see the cave with sacred snakes. But if the sea water is rise, the sacred area change into a beautiful Island. We can't reach the sacred temple when the sea water rise. So it is better to come to Tanah Lot early in the morning or at noon, because at afternoon, the water sometimes will rise, especially when it is full moon.
